I am up early, watching Taylor Swift’s documentary on the album Folklore. Listening to the beautiful lyrics and conversation she has with the producers, I was struck with a strange realization. I don’t systemically listen to music. We lost the art of the album really. We are all track centric, choosing to replay the hit singles or classics we grew up with. Watching this beautiful show hit me with a profound reminder to pick a lyrical book, read the cover and then immerse in the chapters. I had forgotten that sometimes a turn of phrase or lyric could resonate so deeply and I could find myself and something new to love between the covers. It’s amazing how the simple things sometimes flood back and fill a little hole that has been missing.
If you haven’t listened to Folklore, I encourage you to slow down, give yourself an hour away from technology, take a drive somewhere that inspires you and just listen and let your mind have a lovely break from the swirl.
